Daithí O Sé forecasts a wonderful Tea Day for Western Alzheimers.

Daithí O Sé of TG4 has very generously given his support to Western Alzheimers Tea Day on Friday April 4th. Over the next weeks invitations will be going out to hundreds of offices, homes and community groups and he is asking all to hold a Tea Day on that day. Western Alzheimers is helping and supporting families in every community of Mayo whether by In Home Support, Respite or Day Care and can guarantee that the money raised will be spent in these communities.

Western Alzheimers is the main provider of Alzheimer Care in the West of Ireland. Since last year’s Tea Day the organisation has provided care to 420 families and given 370,000 hours of care. There are a greater number of people now suffering from Alzheimer’s disease with a noted increase in the number of younger people presenting with this devastating disease. This brings extra problems to families where there are young children. It is very difficult for children to see their mum or dad behaving out of character or sadly sometimes not even recognising them.

Western Alzheimers is asking people to support their local Alzheimer charity by either hosting or attending a Tea Day in their home, among friends, in their place of work or in their community. Donations towards the Tea Day will also be gratefully accepted.

Western Alzheimers has a number of major projects in the pipeline, which, when completed, will offer a huge expansion of the provision of services to sufferers of Alzheimer’s disease and their carers throughout Mayo, Galway & Roscommon. These include:

Marian House, Ballindine, County Mayo.

Planning permission has been granted to extend Marian House. This extension will provide much needed extra beds to meet the demand for Respite Care. Community Services . In Home Support Service provides valuable services to families throughout Mayo, Galway and Roscommon.

Proposed new development in Galway

A site has been secured adjacent to Merlin Park Hospital. Planning Permission for a purpose built Alzheimer Centre has been granted. Negotiations with the HSE are at an advanced stage. This Centre will provide respite, day care and long-stay facilities.

Maryfield, Athenry, County Galway provides respite, day care and long stay services.

Roscommon
Plans are in progress for a new Respite Home in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon in a site, kindly given by Tulsk Community Council.

Daithi O Sé is supporting Western Alzheimers in their efforts to make Tea Day 2008 the most successful yet. Your support will be greatly valued and will help to raise the much needed funds to maintain essential services and fund the organisation’s plans for expansion.
